A typical day for the Senior Data Analytics Specialist
- Start your day with a stand-up meeting with the team to review progress, priorities and any issues.
- SQL, SQL, and more SQL development.
- Collaborate, design, develop and problem-solve with a supportive team.
- Check requirements, ask questions, think, explore, verify.
- Collaborate on design solutions with our data architect.
- Gain an understanding of data relationships, definitions, rules and nuances.
- Develop a solution in Visual Studio or SSMS.
- Identify opportunities to achieve high-quality data and enrichment.
- Work with our quality assurance analyst to validate data and processes.
- Provide new insights into data by visualizing trends and identifying data correlations.
- Identifying data issues and building remediation solutions.
- Contribute ideas on presenting data, key performance metrics, reporting, insights, interface interactions and dashboards.
- Build technical and business knowledge.
- Transform data to leverage our Insights platform.
- Support operations promptly, fulfilling data requests, improving performance, gaining efficiency and sharing knowledge.
- Juggle multiple tasks concurrently in a timely manner, including large, complex analytical projects.
- Document and present relevant material clearly and concisely to a target audience.
- Follow information management standards and maintain the security and privacy of identifiable personal data.
- Work with the Analytics Centre of Excellence manager to establish and achieve goals.
What you bring
- Expert working knowledge in database querying (SQL) data analysis and visualization.
- Degree or diploma in computer science or information systems.
- Seven years of data analysis and business intelligence experience.
- Highly developed analytical skills.
- Flexibility to work from home or in the APS office.
- Belief in doing the right thing, taking responsibility and making interactions count.
- Live within one hour commute to Edmonton and occasionally attend an in-person meeting at the office.
Experience with:
- Agile, Scrum or comparable process methodology
- Microsoft SQL Server, SSRS, SSIS, SSAS, SQL, T-SQL
- Microsoft TFS or Agile DevOps
- Office 365 and Teams
- Data Analytics: Incorta or alternatives like SAS, Tableau or Power BI
- Large cross-functional corporate project
Experience in these areas is an asset:
- Pension or financial systems
- Programming or scripting languages such as: Python, R, C# and Powershell
- SharePoint and SharePoint integration (Power Automate, Nintex)
- Linux and Windows integration
- Data architecture: data lakes, unstructured data, data warehouses
Candidates who have less experience may be considered for a position at a lower level.
