Summary

Migrant Workers Centre (MWC) is seeking a temporary, part-time contract Program Coordinator position to lead our new project: Legal Education for Outreach (Legal Knowledge Capacity Building for Migrant Workers). The objective of this project is to develop a training program for community workers, migrant worker leaders, and migrant worker organizers to enhance their capacity in addressing key legal issues faced by migrant workers, improve migrant workers' understanding of their rights, and increase collaboration among community organizations in the Fraser Valley. The project will involve creating and delivering a course for migrant worker leaders and community workers and sharing learnings and lived experience with lawyers whose work impacts migrant workers in different sectors.

The contract will be for roughly 300 hours over a 14-week period, beginning on July 22nd and ending by December 31st, 2024. These dates are negotiable.

Responsibilities

• Manage the project by keeping an up-to-date plan and calendar of activities and ensuring all participants are aware of their responsibilities;

• Coordinate with a graphic designer, translator, Staff Lawyer, and stakeholders from other migrant worker advocacy organizations to produce a curriculum for a course on migrant workers' legal rights;

• Coordinate and support the design and printing of a presentation and associated teaching materials;

• Plan all the necessary components for the delivery of the course, from identifying a venue, confirming attendance, arranging for transportation, and anything else required to ensure the course is a success;

• Receive and implement feedback from course participants and other stakeholders as the course progresses;

• Provide input on how this project can then be scaled to further locations; and

• Maintain effective communication with all project stakeholders.

Qualifications

• At least two years of experience in planning and delivering educational or support programs or related.

• Experience in managing projects and the associated tools (project plans, budgets, calendars, meeting minutes, etc.).

• Experience working with the migrant worker community.

• Understanding of the issues and barriers faced by migrant workers.

• Possess excellent organization and time management skills.

• Ability to speak a second language is considered a strong asset; Spanish is especially valuable.

Compensation

The salary range for this position is between $35 to $40 an hour, commensurate with skills and experience. As this is a contractor position and not an employment position, no additional benefits are to be provided.

Other terms

• The contract will be for roughly 300 hours over a 14-week period, beginning on July 22nd and ending no later than December 31st, 2024; this may be extended as needed.

• The selected applicant is expected to provide all the tools necessary to perform the work, including a laptop. Travel and other necessary expenses beyond this will be covered by MWC.

• The work schedule for the position will be flexible, though we expect the work will require between two to three full days of work per week during the duration of the project, usually on weekdays. Some meetings might take place in the evenings to accommodate volunteers and migrant workers.

• Work is to be conducted remotely, with occasional in-person visits to MWC's offices and elsewhere in the Lower Mainland required.

• The project will deliver four separate half-day sessions on-site in the South Fraser Valley region towards the end of the summer. The applicant will be expected to travel to the site of the course to supervise its delivery.
