To expand on our existing successes, Mott MacDonald is now establishing and expanding our Water consulting group across Canada. With a rich history of delivering water solutions around the world, the Canada Water Group will continue our legacy of delivering engineering solutions that make a positive impact to our communities.

An exciting opportunity exists for a Senior / Principal hydrologist to join our Calgary team to support us in our ongoing growth.

The way that you'll contribute in this role will include:

  • Providing technical guidance, leadership and senior level mentorship in hydrology and surface water resources to the Canadian Water unit.
  • Collaborating with Canadian, North American and global practice leads to identify and pursue business opportunities in:
    • Hydrological assessments, modeling, and analyses.
    • Evaluation of water availability, flow patterns, and water quality.
    • Development and implementation of water management strategies.
    • Data interpretation for data obtained from field studies, remote sensing, and monitoring.
    • Assessing the impact of climate change on water resources.
  • Working with multidisciplinary teams to provide industry-leading solutions on engineering and environmental projects.
  • Modeling the Mott MacDonald culture and foster a collaborative team environment that inspires excellence and innovation and provides opportunities for staff to develop their careers and achieve their professional objectives.
  • Participating in the development of the strategy for the Water Resources discipline that will form part of the overall Canada Water business, including:
    • Identifying target industries and clients as well as establishing and nurturing relationships with key clients, business partners and competitors;
    • Identifying project opportunities; and
    • Identifying key industry events (conferences, etc.) and associations in which to actively participate to publicize Mott MacDonald's capabilities.

Education, skills and experience that will help you succeed will include:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in hydrology, water resources, or related field.
  • Minimum 20 years of relevant experience.
  • Proficiency in hydrological modeling software (e.g., HEC-HMS, MODFLOW).
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of local water regulations and environmental standards.
  • Excellent communication and project management abilities.
  • Familiarity with watershed management and water quality modeling.
  • Understanding of groundwater-surface water interactions.
  • Understanding of nature-based solutions to water management issues.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
