Overview

The Senior Commercialization Manager is responsible for fostering proactive relationships with Children's Mercy Hospital (CMH) innovators for identifying and establishing intellectual property assets. The incumbent will evaluate the innovations from the perspective of patentability and commercialization, facilitate intellectual property (IP) protection, market innovations to industry partners, and assist with drafting and negotiating license agreements. Assist with day-to-day operations of the office as well as other duties and responsibilities to advance the CMH innovations for commercial translation.

Responsibilities

Faculty Outreach Invention Management:

+ Maintain proactive working relationships with faculty, clinicians, and researchers, and educate them on intellectual property (IP) and technology commercialization processes, participate in the development of outreach program for IP mining.

+ Solicit and assess invention disclosures from faculty, clinicians, and researchers.

+ Evaluate intellectual property potential, conduct prior art searches and patentability analyses.

+ Manage a portfolio of IP assets, provide feedback, and assist researchers in navigating the patent process.

+ Coordinate with external patent counsel to facilitate patent filings and maintenance.

+ Understand, use, and comply with the requirements for the US Government's iEdison invention disclosure reporting system.

+ Data entry and use of technology transfer data management system.

IP Commercialization:

+ Conduct market research and analysis to determine commercial potential within various market applications.

+ Draft non-confidential summaries and marketing materials and post the summaries on various marketing platforms.

+ Develop and conduct marketing campaigns to promote technologies to potential commercial partners.

+ Identify potential partners and/or licensees and ways to position technologies in a competitive environment for their greatest commercial success.

+ Engage with companies and business development staff in commercialization discussions.

+ Develop licensing strategies for the IP, including proposed valuations and licensing terms for each of several market applications as appropriate.

+ Assist the supervisor in drafting terms and conditions for license and other agreements, and negotiating licensing terms with companies, startups, and other partners.

Foster Commercialization Ecosystem:

+ Collaborate with Innovation Development team to accelerate value generation and commercialization of CMH innovations.

+ Educate researchers about Childrens Mercys pre-commercial development funding support for proof-of-concept studies.

+ Actively participate in organizing IP and commercialization educational events on campus.

+ Assist the supervisor in fostering novel translation pathways including, but not limited to, creating new companies and/or service businesses, SBIR/STTR support system, joint ventures, and investment resources for faculty entrepreneurs.

+ Represent CMH at local, regional, and national partnering and business development events.

+ Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

+ Highly prefer PhD, or Postdoctoral, candidates with the desire to engage in technology commercialization of early-stage healthcare innovations

+ Master's Degree in field of Sciences, Business, or related field and 1-2 years' experience. Specific relevant experience in IP management, technology commercialization, business development, or pharmacuteical/medical sales and strong interest in the commercialization of early-stage healthcare innovations OR

+ Bachelor's Degree Sciences, business, or related field and 3-5 years' experience. Specific relevant experience in IP management, technology commercialization, business development, or pharmacuetical/medical sales and strong interest in the commercialization of early-stage healthcare innovations
